Over the last several months, we've made some radical changes in our lives. We've chosen to start living with less. After moving from a small ranch + two car garage into an apartment, we knew we were going to have to get rid of and downsize a lot of our 'stuff.' We knew it wasn't going to be easy with a baby in tow and plus, we liked our 'stuff'....so we thought.

As we were going through gadgets, clothes, kitchen utensils, wedding + shower gifts we had held on to for over 2 1/2 years. We were embarrassed and suffocating. We started asking ourselves all of these questions.

How did we accumulate all of this?

Why do we have it?

What even is this?

I thought we got rid of that last year?

I realized we were holding to all of this stuff because we thought we may use it in the future.

Right then and there I knew we had to change. We couldn't keep living this way. It wasn't helping us lead a Christ centered life. None of your possessions matter when you start thinking of The Lord, instead of I want this sweater, I want this bike, I want this stroller, I want this channel for this T.V show etc..

Instead of thinking about us first and what we want, we started asking ourselves, "Is this helping us love and praise our Lord?"

"Go sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heave; then come, follow me. Mark 10:21

You may be thinking, "All of my stuff??" "He wants me to get rid of everything?" That's what I first thought when I read it.

But no, that's not what he's saying. He wants you to get rid of stuff holding you down, stuff that you aren't using that someone else could be using, things that could be donated to help people in need.

Do you have five shovels? How about you see if a neighbor needs one or a family member. It's amazing how much better you feel when you only have what you truly need.

Living with less can be applied to any demographic. Large families, small families, large homes, apartments, small homes, kids, no kids, single or married. Look at all aspects of your life and ask yourselves,

How can we live with less?

This motto has completely changed our perspective on life and truly opened our eyes to The Lord. We aren't worried about Keeping up with the Joneses so-to-say because we know we have exactly what we need and not what we want. Greed is one of the seven deadly sins. If you aren't careful, it can take you down a dangerous path.

Living with less brings you more....

Joy, Love, Laughter, & most importantly, makes your relationship with Jesus number one.

Are you already living with less or working on doing so? How did you go about getting rid of unnecessary belongings?
