23 weeks!

While out celebrating my birthday this weekend, Will and I decided that I look pregnant. You may think, "well duh! Where have you been the last 6 months?" Well, of course this baby has been growing, and growing inside of me, but what we mean is that we, maybe more Will, have noticed big growth spurt in my belly. From what we read, it is completely normal and natural. At 23 weeks the baby can range from 12.7 to over 20 ounces.

The big 2-5 and the tip of Sadie's nose!

Quick update about my back pain, that we now know is being caused by my kidney on my left side. Basically to sum up what my doctor said, every woman's uterus continues to grow as the baby grows. With your growing uterus, it pushes down on the ureter, which connects the kidney and bladder. All of this completely normal and fine. With my situation, however, my left side is having trouble draining out of the kidney and in to my bladder through the ureter, which in turn is causing a build-up in my kidney. Which is why I'm having my back pain. Unfortunately, the procedures that would help this are pretty invasive for a pregnant woman, so at this point, it is something I have to put up with until delivery. I am so happy we at least know what is causing the pain, and I keep reminding myself that it could be a lot worse. Baby is fine and healthy and I can take the pain. :)

How far along: 23 weeks
Baby Size: Mango

Baby's progress: Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With his/her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that baby is more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound, you may be able to see the baby squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in his/her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing him/her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze him/her when she hears them outside the womb.

Weight gain: Total weight gain 18 1/2 pounds.

Stretch Marks: Still none!
Sleep: What I thought was pregnancy insomnia, turned out to be a couple of early morning wake ups due to the antibiotic the doctor had me on for some minor infections. (amoxicillin) So, nothing due to being pregnant.

Gender: No idea! :)

Movement: Yes, lots! Now I am noticing it at the same time everyday which is pretty cool. Baby loves to move around after I finish eating, when I wake up in the mornings and when Will gets home from work. Of course there are other times during the day, but those are the times it is most active.

Best Moment this week: Celebrating my 25th birthday this week!

Looking forward to: Will painting the dresser for the baby!

Food Cravings: No cravings this week!

Symptoms: Noticing in the last week or so, but especially this week, I am having a harder time getting up, rolling over while I sleep...just minor things I once took for granted. Tying my shoes and bending down to pick stuff up is getting difficult also.

Things that suck: That there is nothing they can do to ease my back pain. I will survive!

Things that don't suck: Finding out what was causing my back pain. Also, Will and I had our first trip to IKEA this weekend and our lives changed. Totally joking, but now we get the hype. We had NO idea what we were doing or how you bought stuff, but we had so much fun. We got a dresser, mirror and a couple of picture frames for the baby's room! We are already looking forward to our return. :)
