I miss Mayberry...

This past weekend I took Will to Mayberry Cafe. He has been asking to eat here for 2 1/2 yrs. I kept telling him, it's just Mayberry. I have lived in a small town called Danville since I was 1. We have a cute little square and that is where Mayberry is located. People come from all over the USA to visit this restaurant. I still can't wrap my head around that one. Anyway, he kept asking me and finally I got the idea to surprise him. So Saturday rolls around and we both get ready, he has NO idea what we are doing..so I was having fun with him :) I took one of my scarves and blind-folded him. (Mayberry is about two blocks from my house, so I had too)

As soon as I put that scarf on him he freaked out and asked about a million questions.. "ally, how far is it or ally, I'm going to get car sick" etc, etc... I just laughed and laughed :) To really confuse him, we got in the car and I started driving like I was driving out of town. When we got on the square, Santa was standing on a corner waving at all the kids driving by, it is very cute. However, when you have a grown man blind-folded in your car and Santa looks in waving and then points at Will and says, "is he ok?" Santa isn't so cute anymore! I was laughing SO hard and Will had no idea what was going on! I did a couple more turns and got him really confused! I started to head back in town and by this point his patience was wearing thin. I parked and of course I have to document everything, I got my IPhone out and video taped him. I got him out of the car, told him to take off the scarf and turn around. He turned and saw this and just started laughing.

Like I said earlier, I drive by Mayberry all the time and for the past several years I haven't appreciated it at all. I took it for granted. It sounds silly, it's just a restaurant, but in a way it's more than that. It's a landmark in Danville. If it wasn't there the square wouldn't be the same. I walked out of there with a new appreciation for my little town.

During Christmas time Danville shines..it's beautiful! Here are just a couple pictures I snapped...
